What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that everybody has already experienced on an everyday basis.

Simple examples are when we go to sleep at nights (when we are half awake and half asleep) which is called the hypnagogic state, and just before waking up in the morning which is called the hypnapompic state.

If you have ever been absorbed when you are reading a book, or perhaps your mobile device, that you don’t hear someone calling your name or lose track of time. Daydreaming is also a similar state to hypnosis.

Can I Be Hypnotised?

In theory, yes you can, especially when you bear in mind what hypnosis is?. You do need to be open to the process though, as people cannot be hypnotised if they don’t want to be.

Is Hypnotherapy Safe For Everyone?

Yes, hypnotherapy is generally safe for most people. However, there are a few contra-indications, and with that in mind I do recommend booking a 15 monute chat first to ensure your suitability.

What Should I Expect During My First Hypnotherapy Session?

Prior to coming for your hypnotherapy session, you will have already been asked to complete a questionnaire about you, and the reason why you are coming for hypnotherapy.

I will also send you a Relaxation mp3 so you get a taster of what is to come.

Then we start off the session itself by talking about the questionnaire you have filled so that I can understand your situation more, and what you are looking to achieve from hypnotherapy.

Do I Lose Control During Hypnotherapy?

Do I Lose Control During Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is very different from the hypnosis that you might have seen in the media. You are always in charge and remain in control throughout the process. You, the client, and I, the therapist  work together as a team to achieve your goal.

What Happens Next?

After the initial discussion is complete then I guide you into a state of focused relaxation, using relaxation suggestions and using other hypnotic techniques

During this simple state of focused relaxation I can speak more easily to your subconscious mind, which is more responsive to positive suggestions in a relaxed state.

How Many Sessions Will I Need To See Results?

The number of hypnotherapy sessions needed varies based on individual goals and issues, and this is something we can discuss further in the initial consultation. However many clients notice changes within the first one or two sessions. The exception to this is Stopping Smoking which I carry out in one longer session.

Does Hypnotherapy Actually Work?

Yes, hypnotherapy is becoming increasingly recognised in the medical world and many other walks of life where it assists people to make changes. However it is not a magic wand approach, and it still requires work and commitment on your part.
